The phenomenal support of soup kitchens across the Western Cape has facilitated the feeding of thousands of children each day. Once their tummies are full who is stimulating the children’s imaginations, encouraging creativity, offering health education and physical exercise? Jungle Theatre Company in partnership with the Western Cape After-School programme and Assitej South Africa as well as various soup kitchens across the Western Cape are taking on this challenge.
Thanks to our funders and individual donors, the #HealthyBird performance has reached 6 soup kitchens this June in Vrygrond, Khayelitsha and the Wesbank. A fun and energetic bird character called Bongi with a creative bird beak mask and social distancing wings, and a live musician, interacted with the children in the soup kitchen cues. The children laughed, danced, sang and learnt about how to boost their immune systems. After the show, the children received prizes for participating: a bird beak mask and an activity book from the after-school Treasure box. The caregivers were overwhelmed with gratitude.
We have several soup kitchens asking for the #HealthyBird show. You can be part of making this happen by donating here.
