Dassie’s Tale, an isiXhosa folktale suitable for Foundation phase learners, is set in ancient times when the earth was created. All the animals embarked on the journey to share their talents. However, Dassie was too lazy to make the effort and learnt an important lesson about working hard and being honest. This performance involves beautiful songs, expressive dance, isiXhosa and English language. The show is 45 minutes in duration and has an accompanying interactive workshop.
The Dassie story has been explored by JTC’s drama club participants and told at the African Folktales for Children event in March 2019. This June it will make its debut during JTC’s June holiday programme on 19, 20 and 21 June at 3 Marchmont Road, Muizenberg from 10am – 2pm daily. Tickets: Quicket.
The show and workshop will also be performed on 22, 24 and 26 July 2019 at 3 Marchmont Road, Muizenberg for Foundation phase learners from 10 to 1130am. The cost for the outing is R30 per learner with a maximum 120 learners and 1 (sponsored) bus (60-seater) per school. Please note that buses are only available for schools that don’t have a school bus or can’t afford to pay for transport for their learners.
In addition, JTC has a limited number of shows available to be performed at your school between August – December 2019 at a cost of R4 000 per show & workshop for a maximum of 150 learners.
