Dassie’s Tale, an isiXhosa folktale suitable for Foundation phase learners, is set in ancient times when the earth was created. All the animals embarked on the journey to share their talents. However, Dassie was too lazy to make the effort and learned an important lesson about working hard and being honest. This performance involves beautiful songs, expressive dance, isiXhosa and the English language.
The show is 35 minutes in duration and a post-show workshop is also available.
The Dassie story has been explored by JTC’s creative arts club participants and told at the African Folktales for Children event in March 2019 and the show made its debut during JTC’s June 2019 holiday program. Further shows and workshops have been performed at various places to date most recently at the Wolfie Family Festival and the Zabalaza Festival.
”Adequately silly and engaging for children of the target age group – and everyone!”
