EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – JUNGLE THEATRE COMPANY (JTC)
Location: Muizenberg, Cape Town (Hybrid)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
The Opportunity
Jungle Theatre Company (JTC), a leading catalyst for social and environmental change through theatre since 2001, is seeking a visionary and systems-oriented Executive Director.
Following a successful 21-year legacy of artistic impact, JTC is entering a transformative phase. We are looking for a strategic leader to anchor our transition from a founder-led model to one of institutional excellence. This role is designed for a “systems-builder” who balances business rigour with a creative heart, ensuring our world-class theatre is supported by a robust and sustainable operating model.
The Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will hold “Total Systems” accountability for JTC’s organisational health and growth. Your focus will be on:
• Strategic Evolution: Leading the transition toward high-performance institutional maturity.
• Resource Mobilisation: Diversifying revenue streams through high-level donor engagement and commercial tender opportunities.
• Fiscal Stewardship: Directing the annual budget with rigorous oversight and clean audit outcomes.
• Governance & Compliance: Ensuring 100% alignment with NPO/PBO regulations and South African labour law and all statutory requirements.
• People Leadership: Mentoring a dedicated team and fostering a connected, accountable organisational culture.
The Ideal Candidate
• Experience: a minimum of 3-7 years in a management role within the South African NGO or Creative Industries.
• Education: A minimum tertiary National Diploma (NQF Level 6) with a preference for Business Administration or Social Sciences.
• Expertise: A proven track record in organisational professionalisation, financial management, resource mobilisation and team growth & development. Solid working knowledge of the NPO Act, SARS PBO requirements, and the Funding & Donor landscape.
• Style: A facilitative leader who balances Business Rigour with Creative Heart. You are a systems-builder who finds satisfaction in professionalising an organisation and creating the stability required for others to innovate.
• Attributes: An entrepreneurial mindset with the “sleeves-rolled-up” agility to switch between high-level strategy and operational delivery.
Why JTC?
Join a human-centred organisation where your leadership directly enables transformative theatre that inspires thousands of children to connect with their heritage and the environment.
