Jakalashe and Wolf is a play which draws from African and European Folktales. The Jackal and Wolf explore their love/hate relationship with nonverbal tricks and games. From a cooking competition to stick fighting to music, the two masked characters constantly try to outwit each other with hilarious consequences. The archetypal grandmother / gogo/ oma also features as well as the king’s castle. Understanding the text is not central to the story but when the characters speak it is a combination of isiXhosa and Dutch. They ultimately find a way to reconcile and work together, but how long will it last?
The show is 30 minutes in duration and most suitable for children between 8 to 12 years of age.
